Swimming class fees: what you are actually paying for

Two quotes for “swimming lessons” can look very different and still both be fair. This page explains the factors so you can compare like for like.

Class size

This is the biggest factor. A private class pays for one coach's full time; a group class shares it. Per learner, group is usually cheaper, private is usually most expensive, and small group sits in between.

Number of learners

For private or family classes, adding a second or third learner usually raises the total but lowers the cost per person.

Location and travel

Condo and home lessons include the coach's travel. Public pool lessons may have separate pool entry charges.

Lesson length and frequency

Compare the price per minute of coaching, not just per lesson. Packages of several lessons are common; check how many lessons, over what period, and what happens with missed lessons.

Timing

Some providers price weekend or peak slots differently from weekday slots. Ask whether the rate changes by day or time.

Special requirements

Special-needs coaching, test preparation or specific coach requests may affect price. For special needs, see specialneeds.com.sg.
