Which class format fits
The format matters more than the venue. At Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex the same three formats apply as at any public pool:
- Private (1-to-1): best for nervous beginners, adults starting from zero, and learners who need a slower or more structured pace. See private swim classes.
- Small group (2 to 5): siblings or friends at a similar level. Lower cost per person with enough attention for each learner. See small group swim classes.
- Group: confident children working through strokes or SwimSafer stages, who enjoy learning alongside others. See group swim classes.
Matching learners in the same class
A class works when the learners in it are at a similar stage. Mixing a child who won't put their face in the water with one swimming 25m slows both down. When you enquire, Swim2u asks for age, current ability and goals so learners can be grouped sensibly. If no suitable group exists at the time you want, a private class is often the better option than a mismatched group.
The pools and which one your class uses
ActiveSG lists three pools at Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex: a competition pool, a teaching pool and a wading pool. ActiveSG doesn't publish their dimensions. In practice:
- Teaching pool: where most beginner and children's classes start, because learners can work in shallower water.
- Competition pool: for confident swimmers working on strokes, distance or SwimSafer skills.
- Wading pool: for young children with a supervising adult; it isn't a lesson pool.
Which pool and which section a class uses depends on space and pool rules on the day. Ask your instructor where the class will be held.

Checking availability
Yio Chu Kang is one of the public complexes Swim2u lists, but that doesn't mean every class type runs at every time. Send the learner's age, ability, goals and preferred days, and Swim2u will confirm the instructor, format, slot and fee before you pay.
Common questions
Is Yio Chu Kang Swimming Complex open on Thursdays?
No. It closes every Thursday for maintenance, so classes there don't run on Thursdays. If a Thursday is a public holiday, ActiveSG says it opens 8am to 9:30pm.
Which class format suits a nervous beginner?
Usually a private or small-group class in the teaching pool, so the instructor can stay close and go at the learner's pace.
Is pool entry included in the class fee?
Usually not. Learners pay ActiveSG entry separately. At this Normal pool, Citizen and PR adults pay $1.00 on weekdays and $1.30 on weekends and public holidays; under-18s and seniors pay $0.50 and $0.60.
Can a class here include the SwimSafer test?
A class can prepare for a SwimSafer stage, but the assessment is booked separately on the CAMS platform. ActiveSG currently lists Yio Chu Kang as one of the assessment pools, but the venue on your booking is the one that counts.
